Realistic Delivery Promises: Advanced Order Planning and Scheduling as a Tool for Improving Service Levels.

  • CLIENT

    Gruppo RiRi

  • PROJECT

Introduction of a finite capacity planning system and customer order date setting (CTP).

Company

The Riri Group is a global leader in the production and sale of high-fashion zippers. The group operates in all strategic markets, both in the West and the East, with a complex structure of manufacturing companies, commercial subsidiaries, and agents. Riri has always been recognized as an innovative company involved in the research and development of new products. Riri zippers are used by the most prestigious luxury and sports fashion houses.

The Challenge

In the dynamic and demanding world of fashion, the customer service team needed (and still needs) to confirm realistic delivery promises within the day, diversifying them based on customer types and order categories.
The planning process operates in a highly challenging environment, needing to analyze over 150,000 customer order lines annually, with peaks of 1,500-2,000 order positions per day. To manage this complexity, Riri decided back in 1997 to implement a finite capacity planning and scheduling system.

Solution

Compass was initially introduced at the Mendrisio plant, and as volumes and complexity grew, it was extended to the Tirano plant.

Key features of Compass implementation at Riri include:

  • Integrated multiplant configuration of the entire production process.
  • Synchronized planning of capacity and materials.
  • Scheduling constrained by the availability of machine resources, materials, and labor.
  • Immediate comparison between resource availability (labor and machines) and workload.
  • Monitoring of critical material availability shared between the two plants.

Results

The introduction of Compass allowed us to achieve significant improvements in reducing the average delivery time, thanks to the increased timeliness with which we identify bottlenecks and material issues necessary to fulfill customer orders. Planning can now focus on exception management, adjusting production capacity, and interacting with suppliers and other production units within the group. Over the years, we have easily and satisfactorily reconfigured Compass10 functionalities in line with the evolution of our business and production processes.
