Company
Founded in 1991 in Castello di Serravalle, ITALPIZZA quickly became a dynamic industrial player, specializing in the artisanal production of high-quality frozen pizzas. Market success led the company to consolidate production at its San Donnino (MO) plant, which expanded from 5,000 sqm to 20,000 sqm over the years, while maintaining the traditional qualities of Italian pizza.
Challenge
The wide range of products (both private label and proprietary brands) and the highly dynamic market led ITALPIZZA to seek a flexible, user-friendly planning tool capable of handling the promotional demands typical of the large-scale retail sector.
Implementing the new finite capacity scheduling system required managing strict production constraints and respecting specific sequencing criteria.
Solution
Given the unique characteristics of ITALPIZZA’s production process, scheduling utilizes advanced “Rhythm Wheel Production” functionality, defining product sequences for each base period (weekly). The system determines which items to produce and in what quantities, based on delivery priorities and stock coverage. The new Planning & Scheduling system:
- Supports planners in developing the Master Production Schedule (MPS) for all product types (frozen and fresh), considering overall demand (MTS and MTO) and promotional events.
- Generates finite capacity production schedules, optimizing machine capacities, production sequences, and product conditions (e.g., make-to-stock and shelf life).
- Provides performance analysis tools to easily identify critical resources.
Results
“With Compass, we now have a year-long planning horizon. Its rapid calculation allows us to respond quickly to daily changes, finding optimal solutions through scenario simulations. Compass10’s analysis tools enable medium- and long-term resource impact assessments.”
