Be data-driven today: easier said than done

In the last few years, the idea of “being data-driven” has become almost a slogan. Everyone talks about it, everyone sees it as an indispensable goal, especially in complex areas such as the supply chain. But beyond intentions, how many companies really succeed in making data-driven decisions in a concrete, day-to-day, structured way?

The real truth is that being data-driven is much more difficult than it seems. Not because of a lack of technology-on the contrary, there is no shortage of solutions-but because of a matter of approach, corporate culture and, often, even strategic vision.

The data are there – but are they really being used?

Today, every company, no matter how small, has an impressive amount of data at its own disposal. We speak of orders, stocks, lead times, logistics costs, supplier performance, service levels… and the list could go on. However, this data often remains ‘’silent‘’ in systems that do not talk to each other, or worse, is collected without a clear objective.

It is not unusual to see decisions still taken ‘on a hunch’, perhaps relying on established experience but without the support of real analysis. The risk? Taking the wrong path or, worse, not realising in time that something is not working.

To be data-driven is not only a technology issue

Real change occurs when technology meets an analysis-oriented mindset. Compass360, for example, is a supply chain planning & execution platform that provides a comprehensive and structured view of decision-making processes, helping companies turn data into concrete action.

But the software alone can change the way an organisation makes decisions. It needs will, expertise, and above all a data culture shared between all corporate functions.

From data to action: the real quantum leap

To be data-driven is not just about getting numbers, but translating them into operational choices. It means knowing where to intervene before a problem becomes a crisis, anticipating bottlenecks, optimising resources and reducing waste. It is a path, not a state to be reached once and for all.

That’s why we wanted to explore this topic in depth in our webinar ‘Being data-driven today: easier said than done’. We gathered experiences, real cases and concrete insights to help companies understand how to move from theory to practice, and how a platform like Compass360 can support this change.
