Utensili Filettatori Sparone (UFS) is a Piedmont-based company founded over 70 years ago as a manufacturer of threading taps. It has a long history of steady development in the production of tools for mechanical machining, continuously adapting to market demands and expanding both domestically and internationally. Today, UFS is a prominent national and international manufacturer of threading taps, selling in Italy and 50 other countries worldwide, including through a B2B portal. The company offers approximately 9,500 catalog products, with 30% of its revenue generated from custom products developed according to specific customer requirements.

The Challenge

Supporting business reorganization processes to meet international challenges. The main objectives were to replace the internally developed production planning system and achieve greater efficiency in managing orders and processes.

Solution

Since 2009, the implementation of Compass and the Advanced Planning & Scheduling system, integrated with the company’s ERP system, has supported UFS’s technological development strategy. The software is used in production to:

• Manage the multitude of production orders (over 1,800 simultaneously) and the complexity of processes (over 20,000 operations to schedule).
• Ensure order traceability through production progress monitoring, traceability of different production batches, and setup optimization.
• Manage an inventory of over 500,000 items, supported by a sales forecasting program.
